The Pascua Yaqui Tribe
Indian Elders Project

– inspiration for the
Hawai’i Portrait Project

In the course of my commercial / hospitality photography, an Arizona client was the Casino del Sol - owned by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. I had the honor of being selected for a specialty project - to make individual portraits of the tribal elders. What an honor and what a responsibility! In the studio, I tested and developed a lighting and background style that I carried into the tribe’s recreation center where I set up my portable studio. Over the days, I met and photographed nearly a hundred people. In the weeks that followed, I culled the collection and crafted the image files into black & white photos that I felt best represented each individual.

The thumbnail portrait proof you see below is a representation of those sessions.
